Here are some products that have health benefits either due to lack of preservatives, less or no added sugar, less or no added salt or they are nutrient packed:

Bottled Fruit/Vegetable Juices

  • Ceres 100% fruit juices - various flavours: www.ceresjuices.com
  • Campbell Low Sodium V8 100% Vegetable Juice (taste and texture like tomato soup so don't pop open a can and start gulping down!)
  • Minute Maid 100% Pure Apple Juice - I've seem this sold at McDonalds with kid's meal. I think the orange juice at McDonalds is also Minute Maid 100% pure juice series.
  • Ocean Spray Premium Premium 100% Juice - no added sugar - various flavours. I thought I saw this series at The Marketplace, organic foods section.
  • Welch's 100% Grape Juice. Definitely saw this at The Marketplace.
  • Generally, look for 100% juice, no preservatives. no added sugar or artificial flavours/colours. Sounds cliche but its downright healthy.

Bread

  • Look for at least 3 grams of fiber per serving.

Canned Evaporated Milk

  • Nestle Carnation Evaporated Fat Free Milk - Vitamins A & D added.

Salad Dressing

  • Use extra virgin olive oil + balsamic vinegar.

Tea

  • Twinings of London Earl Grey Tea
  • Twinings of London Lady Grey Green Tea
  • Twinings of London Original Earl Grey Tea
  • Twinings of London Jasmine Green Tea

Canned Tomato Products

  • Hunt's Tomato Sauce - no salt added
  • Hunt's Tomato Paste

Cooked Cereal

  • Quick 1-Minute Quaker Oats
  • Quaker Instant Oatmeal - Regular Flavour
  • Old Fashioned Quaker Oats 100% Whole Grain

This list was originally prepared in the US by Dr. Pratt. I have sifted out the brands that can be found in Singapore. Note that those found locally may not have the same amount of nutrients or less baddies than their US counterparts. Nevertheless, the list is a starting point to focus us amidst the myriad of brands out there.
